Moselsteig Leg 1

Langsur

The first leg – or, of course, the final leg – of the Moselsteig Trail thrills with its closeness to nature, open landscapes and an exclusive view of the three countries as far as Luxembourg and France. The landscape constantly changes, and with the rustic forests and wide-open fields of the Saargau, offers a contrast to the vine-ranked Mosel Valley – in early spring the beautiful flowerage of the wild growing orchids add to these glorious sights. Of particular interest in this section of the trail are the so-called dolina, karstic sinkholes located close to the path, which provide impressive proof that the landscape was mainly formed from limestone. Perl and Palzem are two charming legs of the trail for hikers – one still lies in the Saarland and the other already in Rhineland-Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz).

Hiking trail Trierweiler - Sirzenich 6

This is a demanding route but Hikers will be rewarded with numerous highlights. Start is at the cemetery in Sirzenich. The first great view is to the highest elevation "the Galgenberg". Even numerous districts of Trier can be seen from here. The narrow path leads you through a dense and fairy-tale forest area. The water treading basin offers a welcoming cooler during the summer months. Narrow paths and beautiful forest paths meander towards the Sirzenicher stream. Before reaching the lowest point of the tour, you will pass impressive rock formations. While reaching the city limits of Trier, the route leads over a wooden bridge to the Sirzenicher stream. From here the wild adventure begins. Following the course of the stream, 7 bridges facilitate the crossing. The Sirzenicher waterfall forms the end of this fantastic scenery. The place is perfect for a break and to listen to the rippling of the water. From here, we walk back through the forest to Sirzenich.
