Kordel

The village is renowned for its beautiful location in the valley of the Southern Eifel, surrounded by extensive forests. Kordel enjoys excellent public transport connections via the Trier–Cologne railway line and the B422 federal road. The Kyll Valley Cycle Route and the long-distance Eifelsteig hiking trail both pass through the Eifel region and the picturesque Kyll Valley on their way to Trier.

Approximately 3 km south of Kordel, the ruins of Burg Ramstein, a former electoral Trier castle, rise majestically atop a towering sandstone cliff. Today, the castle is Kordel's best-known landmark and a popular excursion destination, attracting numerous visitors with its restaurants and scenic setting.

The area is also rich in Roman heritage. Visitors can discover the remains of a Roman glassworks on the Hochmark plateau, the tunnels of a former ore mine above Burg Ramstein, and sections of the Roman Long Wall (Langmauer), an impressive ancient boundary structure.
