The village is renowned for its beautiful location in the valley of the Southern Eifel, surrounded by extensive forests. Kordel enjoys excellent public transport connections via the Trier–Cologne railway line and the B422 federal road. The Kyll Valley Cycle Route and the long-distance Eifelsteig hiking trail both pass through the Eifel region and the picturesque Kyll Valley on their way to Trier.
Approximately 3 km south of Kordel, the ruins of Burg Ramstein, a former electoral Trier castle, rise majestically atop a towering sandstone cliff. Today, the castle is Kordel's best-known landmark and a popular excursion destination, attracting numerous visitors with its restaurants and scenic setting.
The area is also rich in Roman heritage. Visitors can discover the remains of a Roman glassworks on the Hochmark plateau, the tunnels of a former ore mine above Burg Ramstein, and sections of the Roman Long Wall (Langmauer), an impressive ancient boundary structure.
The ´`Römerpfad`` is a premium walk. It leads past many Roman sights and along the waterfalls, one of the most beautiful hiking areas in the district of Trier-Saarburg.
The stage 14 of the Eifelsteig leads from Bruch to Kordel.
The stage 15 is the last stage of the Eifelsteig and leads from Kordel to the finish Trier.
Near the Kyll Valley lies the imposing and legendary Genoveva Cave. The premium hiking trails Eifelsteig and Römerpfad guide hikers to this spot in the middle of an enchanted forest. Over millions of years, the forces of nature carved the shell-shaped cave out of the massive rock. Since the Stone Age, it has offered people shelter from the elements and wild animals. According to legend, Genoveva, the doomed wife of Count Palatine Siegried, also found a safe hiding place here for many years.
Around Kordel you will find a variety of wild-romantic rock formations and caves. Visit, for example, the Klausenhöhle, the Genovevahöhle or the Butzerbach Valley.
Visit the Klausenhöhle ( cave) on the Premium hiking trail ``Römerpfad`` and let the past come back to life. According to legends, a hermit lived in the cave in the 18th century.
The Roman mine is one of the largest and oldest Roman mines in Germany.
Losheimergraben - Trier
A swimming pool with a certain charm: towards all the sides, only forest can be seen. On a lawn of 30.000 m², you will find without any problem a calm place near the pool. Streetball, Beach Volleyball or Table Tennis.
The rustic inn is located in the district of Hochmark and offers regional specialties in addition to a beautiful terrace with a playground for the little ones. In the separate room parties can be celebrated. Other facilities: - Disabled toilet and changing facilities- Kids Bimmelbahn ( small train with a warning bell) We mostly source regional products and our dishes are often seasonal too. We also offer home-baked pies and cakes, which we make ourselves.
